I never thought rabbits were this ferocious. I can agree with you that the characters are not that believable. I especially agree that Disney remade animated classic into CGI. I don't see what's the point of it. But like you said, they do this to make money. It seems that money is an issue these days. They're just rehashing the same thing over and over. It's gotta stop.

I have seen better fur texture in video games. And the rabbit animation is horrible. I could never finish this show despite my love of the series.

What I think of the remake, it’s ok, I would go with the original instead though.

I'm going to be watching this version soon, I just finished the book and original movie and I really hope that they decide to follow the book more. They could add so much more information about the characters and they could add characters that weren't added to the original movie like Strawberry. They could also spend a lot more time in Cowslip's burrow because I loved that part in the book. They did a good job in the movie, but they didn't really explain why the rabbits wanted them to stay and why they didn't like it when someone started a sentence with "where." They could also improve on the relationship between Kehaar and Bigwig like they did in the book. My expectations are high, but I don't think that the series is going to follow through.

About three months ago, I watched the series. And I just want to say, it wasn't bad. Sure, the CGI was....interesting. But the voice acting was wonderful and, I watched the 1978 one when I was younger, the deaths were very subtle than the original. What bothered me about the ending was that when the Black Rabbit appears and Hazel goes with them, you remember that his mate, Clover, was pregnant! I mean, maybe the kits were born already but Hazel had kits to watch grow up and he willingly went with the Black Rabbit! I somewhat liked how in the book, Strawberry is male but in the miniseries, they are female. The use of the song 'Fire on Fire' by Sam Smith adds a less haunting and memorable vibe to when Hazel is shot. In other words, these are my opinions, and I honestly prefer this version rather than the other. Just to point out, I haven't watched the 1999 version, that's why it isn't mentioned.

Have you watched it yet? I enjoyed it, but you're 100% right about the animation. It's not good. I don't think the character design is necessarily bad, but it looks dated for CGI, and the animation is really rough.. like a couple steps away from Gary's Mod. It does wimp out on the violence, but I really like Ben Kingley's Woundwort, and Boyega's Bigwig. Even Nicholas Hoult does a great subdued, meek Fiver. All in all it's a solid B+ series imo

I already watched the first 2 episodes, and tbh...it's pretty good!

The CGI looks very cheap, like a decade back children's cartoon cheap. It's like they took a very dated animation engine with some touch ups here and there (like the Bethesda of animation) and gave the okay. Budgetship Down. As for the original being unpolished, that had to do more with the era than money constraints. 70s animation suffered because all the Old Guard animators from Disney and Warner Bros from the black and white film era all retired at once, not training the next generation. As a result, new animators had to rebuild the trade from the ground up.

Man, I cant watch it all the way thru because this cgi felt like phoned in cheap and sloppy. Just a bunch of deadpan eyed lifeless rabbits tweaked from the same model and thrown into unnatural facial expressions when talking. Fully Photorealistic cgi rabbits was a bad production choice. these new freaks look like talking taxidermy with moving mouth parts. They should have stuck closer to the 2d character models where the rabbits faces looked favorably more humanistic and moved with human emotion since thats what we all wanted to see. Not a real rabbit looking both directions at the same time distinguishable only by wearing a wig. If they looked More like a living plush of the 1978 character with higher definition and realistic fur it would have been very successfull. Maybe they could just sell those plushies again as I don't see the sales on these generic looking guys going well.

I saw the mini-series and I love it! Now I can't say if it's acurate with the book because I didn't read it and I saw the animated movie recently and it didn't have that impact that younger viwers had. But I think you guys should give it a chanse.

The animation is bad, but after watching it all I was too moved by the tone, voice acting and overall effort into this that it wasn't a factor to me anymore. They probably didn't have that big of a budget and with how much animation, even 3D costs, they tried their best and the focused on what was important. It captures the feel of the original and adds in a few good moments of it's own. I'm sorry if people can only look past bad animation if it's in 2D, or need the horribly gorey bits to even give the movie a chance, but they're missing out. It wasn't the next big thing, like no-one will be referring to it when they speak of Watership Down, that will always be to the 2d one, but it didn't ruin it anymore. It was a fine movie.

Right now, in America, they currently have it on Netflix but its gonna be a show notta movie. So far there are 4 episodes. Idk if they have it different In some other places but its available rn in America

I am just now watching this after I’ve already finished episode 3 and there are only 4 episodes in the series, and don’t worry, their isn’t any gore. Also something to add, each episode is 51 minutes long.

Even if the old movie was traumatic, at least it had well desinged characters... Here, it looks like some old game cutscenes, like Sonic 2006, and it's not too comparable to recente releases like Disney's Live-Action remakes or Peter Rabbit, and looks like it was made in the earlies 2000's (like 2005)... Otherwise, i don't know if this is going to maintain the old Movie/Novel story, but i belive that it will have "little changes" on the Writting...

I watched the series and I cried

hot take: the 2018 watership down is significantly better than the 1978 film in every aspect except the animation. also, they only had $25 mil (usd) to stretch out for four hours worth of animation. the minions movie, by contrast, had $60 mil and is only about 90 minutes, and that’s considered low budget for animation. the folks at brown bag studios did the best with what they had and honestly, they did a really great job. but even aside from the animation, the 2018 one made a lot of really strong choices that make the characters more three dimensional and made the story *about* something, rather than just “oh look, childhood trauma.” it had vision and purpose: it was a story about liberation from oppression, and it executed it very well. it was remarkably well done and had references to all previous adaptations: the novel, the 78 film, even the 3 season long watership down cartoon made for young children (that you can find for free on youtube last time i checked) from 1999-2001. as someone who loves every iteration of watership down, i can’t recommend this one highly enough.

SPOILERS I loved the Watership down mini-series, it was a heartwarming and child-friendly remake. But when the Efrafran rabbit with the huge claw was marking the new bunnies I was taken off guard.

The animation and models are horrendous. For a big series like this i expected more

They... don't look like rabbits? They all keep their butts up when they're standing, like, I'm pretty sure rabbits keep their haunches low. They look like horse rabbits. :| Or, uh, hares, I guess. And what's with Hazel's entirely cold, unfocussed face. How are we supposed to feel the warmth and leadership from a face like that?
