Wait omg I remember this, I knew it as Scamper the Penguin! I dont remember the shooting. I remember Lolo/Scamper and his friends escaped on their own. It did a timeskip, saying Scamper and Pepe were out on sea for a while. When they returned thats where the film ended

You should check out some of the other soviet cartoons as well. There's quite a lot of interesting gems in there. Not to mention that USSR animation or Soyuzmultfilm(Союзмультфильм) had some creepy and obscure animations as well. I'd recommend giving their version of Jungle Book a try. It is far more brutal, compared to what disney did. Mostly because it sticks close to the original story.

Sadly there was an American cartoon inspired by Anime, and I'm not talking about Avatar: The Last Airbender or the legend of Korra, this show was called ExoSquad witch you can watch on NBCUniversal streaming Service called Peacock for free under the kid's section. Despite its adult subjects like racism, slavery, and the harshness of war. And not afraid to kill off main characters. They even went kinda Game of Thrown like with their Second and last season. And sadly no one even remembers or cares nowadays. :(

"Remember kids - the seal was evil" I thought for a second that you are going to quote master Qui-Gon right there.

This was my favorite movie as a kid. I remember thinking those biscuits looked delicious. Couldn’t believe it was a communist movie.

Wow, ok so there's is a animated movie called "The Pebble and the Penguin" from 1995 and there are a lot of scenes in that film that are seem to be taken from this story. It's just been cutesified, with added singing moments for that Disney feel. And the story revolves around an adult love story and a pretty pebble(yup), there is also this weird side story of the Rock Penguin (yup they befriend a rock penguin on a ship too) and how he wants to fly...even though penguins can't fly....it's a thing and it gets weird at the end. It also has some really lovely musical scores, that just seem grander then the film, has that same feel as the Disney's Hunchback. And then some that feel out of place like the weird villian song... Any who I highly reccomend checking it out and seeing those identical scenes, I would even say that this film, although much more 'Kid Friendly' has made those lion seal scenes so fucking scary, like I had nightmares about dark water after that film 😖

I remember watching this film in spanish, back when I was a kid in Cuba. BUT THEY NEVER SHOWED THE SHOOTING PART, just FYI... Even the Cuban govmnt thought it was too agressive.
