Top 5 DARKEST Hey Arnold Episodes

Here's a slightly older video I made that was originally taken down as it was blasted with Copyright strikes from the fantastic copyright system. Hey Arnold was always a more down to earth show for Nickolodeon at the time, but was also quite famous for having its fair share of dark and creepy moments too!

As I watch again Hey Arnold in my early 20s I see that every single episode talks about a serious issue but disguises it as a kids cartoon

Hey! I never realized it before now but, Herbert the Pervert, from Family Guy, looks an awful lot like Arnold’s grandfather... hmmmm EDIT: I just need to add this, what with this video being my ‘formal introduction’ to Hey Arnold... Holy crap! This show was dark, especially for a ‘kid’s show’ on a major children’s television network! That’s not a bad thing. I think it’s great to be fairly open & honest with even young children - to the best of one’s ability & with parental guidance, of course.

With Helga and her therapist the creators were planning to make a spin-off around this dynamic with Helga as the main protagonist. Once the first Hey Arnold Movie went bust (largely because of Nickelodeon's own interference) they cut back support on the franchise to the point where the spin-off didn't happen.

Theory for the train. A collection of the most popular theories tied together in one tragic tale. The engineer was suffering financially but was to be laid off. He kept hearing a voice that told him to crash the train. He heard it for days, weeks, maybe months before he knew he was going to be laid off. He knew if he crashed it, then maybe he could sell it for parts since it's not a Great Northern locomotive. But that was a terrible idea. Surely he would get into some kind of trouble and it all sounded too risky. But that voice was so convincing, and drilled it inside his head that it doesn't matter. It's better this way. So, the engineer drove the train off the tracks in a fit of madness. The devil welcomed him home. No one saw curly for the longest time after the bride episode

I love it when people in horror movies or series hear an urban legend involving where a ghost or a monster shows up at a certain time, looking for victims. And everyone's first idea is "Hey let's see if we can see it tonight."

Me and my best friend did a 3 AM challenge thing when you lay down and then a person will touch your head or whatever, and then tell a story about a mean cat, and when the person sits up, they will have long scratches across their back. The thing is, is that it has to be a long and scary story made up from the top of your head. So I did it. *ANYWAY* , turns out I have some mad amazing story telling skills (that I will animate this Halloween as a practice for animation, flipnotes, or just story telling). In my story, the cat was on its last life bc in his other past lives, he would become mutated and twisted at night, murdering his owners before being killed mysteriously shortly afterwards. Because of his first owner using him as a Satanic sacrifice to put a curse on his ex wife on the night of the full moon (the full moon is VERY important in rituals, spells, or curses). The sacrifice backfired (just like all death or cursed spells or rituals) as the cat came back from the dead and murdered the owner. The cat then mysteriously died just as the curse would always work, and then risen up from his "deathbed" every month. In the morning, he looked like just a typical yet adorable and loving black cat. And obviously, a person, family, or couple would take him in. But when the full moon comes just like every month, that very night, the cat will brutally kill the owner(s) and then died again shortly afterwards once again. But in the story, the cat was on his last life, so he looked like a deceased corpse, wandering around the dark allies of the city. In this cat's final moments, he got a chance to kill 9 people in their apartments by the ally he was hiding in. After killing the nine people on the night of the full moon, a lot citizens saw the cat crawl down the wall of the apartments, looking at everyone with glowing red eyes with no pupil, cocking his head side to side as the cat crawled down into the darkness with twisting and turning movements unlike anything to ever live on Earth. As it disappeared, it was never spotted again. So now, every full moon, the raspy, zombie-like yowl of the cat can be heard in the blackness off the alley, for everyone he killed, he stole enough souls to have make his official demon spirit lurk in the alley, as well as tormenting the apartment rooms owners with his horrid howls. The story I told was MUCH, MUCH longer than that. I just had to type in as much as I can so u guys can get the "picture". I am really looking forward into telling y'all the full story lol

regarding 19:05, if you look closely, when you look at the bottom of the gravestone you can see a capital H and E while the rest is hidden by the grass. the word was "hell". a lot of people are saying it wasn't, but it had to be since "hell" rhymes with snell anyway. not super important, just thought i'd point it out.

When you grow up with something like Hey Arnold, it's pretty hard to think of it as dark. The show was more exciting, and funny! There may have been some hints of Miriam being an alcoholic, but being young I thought of her as more of the dunce. Or someone who is really tired. Yes I was a sheltered kid, but seeing it like this was a lot more fun and funny. 😁

I have always been really anti social and when i was 13 it was normal to be stolen away by cartoons but hey Arnold caught my eye the most and it actually encouraged me to become an artist. I used to draw fanart, all the way up to the hey Arnold jungle movie and being apart of the fan page. So basically was a magafan for about 7 years. The characters are so down to earth and Helga has always been my favorite and most relatable character, especially her family dynamic. I love this show so muxh it hurts. Im not as obsessed anymore but it's jidt6so nostalgic

The urban legend/supernatural episodes were always my favorites and definitely scared the crap out of me as a kid. Was super disappointed with their Halloween episode because it wasn’t scary at all. I get that they were going for an Orson Wells “War of the Worlds” twist, but as a kid, I would’ve never gotten that the reference.

Hey Steve I know you are not gonna read this because this video is like 1 year ago 😂 But I'm hoping you can discuss about the misadventure of flapjack cartoon series, I reeally love it when I was a child and I know the theme trough out the series is quite dark, but I still can handle to watch it as a child (most episodes) although there are a couple episodes that I find quite disturbing and scary, maybe you can give this series a chance for this topic? And I also find it quite odd that my friends didn't remember watching this as a kid (tho growing up I don't have many friends to begin with) :( maybe there is something wrong with it? Idk

As a teenager I used to go to a place where there were train rails on a lower level from the ground we could step on. Nowadays those rails are being used on a daily basis because the whole area is being reformed, but back then it was abandoned, and some of those rails led to nowhere. I will never forget the day we heard a distant train whistle in that place.

While there may not be a complete lack of shows with the ability to touch on deep and mature themes these days, it's a shame that so few modern cartoons really try to be deep, either laying the themes on a bit too thick, or being a bit too narrow in scope to reach a wide enough audience. It was pretty cool how a show like Hey Arnold had a somewhat timeless feel to it with the way it captured the world of being a young kid in a suburban setting, even being able to be relatable to kids who might have grown up in more isolated areas.

What most of these horror episodes have in common: 1:character tells a scary story. 2:for some reason they decide to visit the scary destination mentioned in said strory. 3:surprise surprise, characters happen to be at said place during the mentioned date it happened. 4:they find no evidence of the story being real and decide to leave 5:scary story actually ends up happening after their gone.
